Kathmandu: The number of individuals eligible for government assistance in the aftermath of the Jajarkot earthquake is anticipated to rise to 80,000. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) reported that, as of now, 67,780 beneficiaries have been identified, with around 9,000 added during the latest updates. The figure is expected to increase further.

NDRRMA Chief Executive Officer Anil Pokhrel stated that preparations are underway to accommodate the growing number, which was initially set at 28,000. As the beneficiary count rises, the cost for rehabilitation and the management of temporary shelters will also increase. Over Rs 2.26 billion has been allocated to the affected districts, and additional budgetary requirements are anticipated.

Jajarkot has the highest number of beneficiaries at 35,140, followed by Rukum West with 23,608, Bajhang with 4,576, Bajura with 2,729, and Salyan with 1,730. The earthquake on November 3, with its epicenter at Ramidanda in Jajarkot, affected several districts, and ongoing efforts include the construction of temporary shelters for the affected population.
